I have a more substantial post about Rock 'n' Roll Hotel in the works, but it needs more editing and will have to wait ‘til tomorrow. In the meantime, here's a good excuse to post a picture of Stella Stevens...

As the cover story in Style Weekly mentioned, at one point Stella Stevens was attached to the film to play the part of Dick Shawn’s girlfriend.

Stevens “was far enough involved in the project that they started recording her vocals for some of the musical sequences,” Dvonch says. “I was there in the Manhattan sound studio one night while she worked, singing a ’50s rock ’n’ roll standard. I got the sense she was unhappy and that she was going to jump ship. Sure enough, a few days later she was no longer part of the production.”

I was buzzed about Stevens being in the movie because she starred in one of my all-time favorites “The Nutty Professor,” written and directed by The Total Asshole Filmmaker, Jerry Lewis.

In the movie, Lewis photographed Stevens as if she were a gauzy, ethereal dream-object composed of equal parts blond hair and tight sweater. I was 10 years old when I saw her in “Nutty Professor.”

At that age, I didn’t know much…but I knew what I liked.

Especially a year or so later once I sneaked a peak at her Playboy pictorial at around that time, which modesty — and my wife — prevents me from linking to.

I heard she would be recording vocals one evening, so I pestered once of the production people to let me in to the session. He sneaked me into an adjoining room where I could see through the soundproof glass. He told me to keep a low profile behind the mixing console and keep out of site. “This is supposed to be closed to everyone but studio personnel, so act like you belong here…and if you get caught, leave me out of it.”

Eventually, she entered the studio and started to work. I watched her through the studio glass, and she still looked good, wearing an autumn outfit of tan and brown and sporting a Gatsby newsboy cap. I had brought my camera with me and surreptitiously started taking pictures, trying hard not to get caught.

I now I present to you, the only picture I can find from that evening…

Yeah. A blurry shot of everybody but Stella Stevens. I think I was too nervous to shoot when she was in the room, afraid I’d be thrown out.

Sorry.

Is the girl in the high-heels something?

Is that Rachel Sweet? I honestly don’t remember if Rachel was there at the studio that night or not.

Umm...let’s just say it's her and call this a successful post.

See you tomorrow!
