ROCK 'N' ROLL HOTEL -- THE PREMIERE IN PICTURES

Thank you, Richmond!
We had a blast at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hotel reception party at the Jefferson Hotel , the screening at the Byrd Theatre , and the after-party at the Bonvenu .
Below are some high-resolution panoramic pictures of the festivities. Click on the image to see it full size and feel free to download. The photos are big enough that you should be able to find yourself and your friends in the crowd.
Coming up in my next post — my official review of Rock ‘n’ Roll Hotel! Tonight, however, it’s paparazzi time, starting with the party in the Grand Ballroom at the Jefferson Hotel…
For VIPs, the folks in Richmond sure were friendly. Thanks to the guy who bought my drinks!
What 80s film wouldn't be complete without dry ice and a chopper? I mean, besides My Dinner with Andre?
At the Jefferson, I spend some time signing autographs and posing for pictures...wisely scheduled before anyone actually saw the movie.
A Rachel Sweet and the Third Dimension T-shirt? Sir, I salute your dedication!

Jason Roop, Arts and Entertainment Editor for Style Weekly, welcomes the guests and introduces me to the crowd. He did a great job promoting the film. When I first heard that they planned to make a big event out of the premiere showing, I had my doubts, but Style Weekly really came through! All 150 VIP tickets sold out. Over $16,000 raised and more than 800 seats filled.
Actually the evening started at the 3rd Street Diner , where I met with Dale Brumfield, the man who broke the story of Rock 'n' Roll Hotel at Style Weekly. Watch Dale's video on WRIC-TV here . Here's Dale at dinner, with his soon to be released book, Remnants.

From the Jefferson, we boarded courtesy buses to the Byrd Theatre for the premier screening. Here's what the theater...um...theatre looked like, about 15 minutes before the curtain rose. VIPs in the balcony...bitter clingers on the ground floor.
When the screening was over, Todd Schall-Vess, General Manager of the Byrd Theatre issued a public apology. Sorry, sorry...I mean he was interviewed by Style Weekly. So was I. I'll link to the video when it comes out.
After the film was over, my wife and family trooped across the street to party at the Bonvenu, the Sardi's of Richmond!
A packed house. Were you there or were you square?
Jason Roop and I drink to celebrate the screening. Either that or we're drinking to forget what we just saw...
It is appropriate that the evening should end with Dale Brumfield...the man who started it all. He did the impossible, bringing Rock 'n' Roll Hotel back to the spotlight long after it was forgotten by nearly everyone, including me.
I don't think this is the end for Rock 'n' Roll Hotel...I think this is just the beginning. In my next post, I'll review the film and tell you why!

What a treat to return to the Jefferson after nearly 3 decades. It looked fantastic! Much like the movie, the Jefferson was a dismal wreck when we started shooting there in 1982 — now it looks every inch like the five-star hotel that it is today.Click to enbiggen!

Great post, Russ, and thanks . . . So that's why the words "The beginning" scrolled by at the end of the end credits?
